Description
Beta-carotene is a pigment of the carotenoid family, responsible for the orange colour of carrots. This molecule is also found in many plants such as tomatoes, broccoli and apricots, but also in spirulina.
Beta-carotene, also known as provitamin A, is a precursor of vitamin A. The conversion of beta-carotene into vitamin A takes place in the liver.
Beta-carotene has various health benefits. It acts as an antioxidant and combats the free radicals that cause oxidative stress.
This molecule also contributes to the protection of the skin and its hydration. In addition, it participates in the activation of melanin synthesis, which is involved in skin pigmentation, particularly during tanning. Beta-carotene can also be associated with blueberry in case of capillary fragility and venolymphatic insufficiency.
