Inositol
Description
This molecule has 9 possible structures (9 isomers), including myo-inositol, which constitutes phospholipids present in cell membranes. Inositol has many beneficial effects on health.
It is naturally present in certain foods, such as citrus fruits, cabbage, nuts, melon, but it is also found in breast milk.
Its role in transmitting signaling messengers leads to the release of neurotransmitters in the brain, such as serotonin, dopamine (known as "happiness hormones") and glutamine. Inositol contributes to good mental health and promotes good mood balance.
Inositol is also used to improve egg quality in case of polycystic ovary syndrome (POS). This pathology of endocrine origin leads to ovulation disorders, but some studies have shown that inositol supplementation restores a regular and normal cycle, thus promoting ovulation and, by extension, pregnancy.
In addition, this carbohydrate improves insulin sensitivity. It increases the level of "good" cholesterol (HDL) and helps to reduce the formation of atheromatous plaques.
