Lactobacillus reuteri DSM17648

Description

Lactobacillus reuteri is a Gram-positive bacterium of the Lactobacillaceae family.

As its name indicates, it uses lactose to develop. This bacterium is present in the gastrointestinal tract, the vaginal mucosa and the oral cavity.

It produces reuterin and reutericyclin, two antimicrobial substances that inhibit the growth of certain Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, or Gram-positive bacteria, while preventing the destruction of the intestinal flora and lactic bacteria. Lactobacillus reuteri is also active against parasites such as Cryptosporidium parvum, responsible for severe diarrhea.

Lactobacillus reuteri contributes to digestive well-being. This bacterial strain is equally effective in preventing intestinal infections and in treating diarrhea caused by rotavirus. If Lactobacillus reuteri is involved in the construction of the infant's microbiota during breastfeeding, its action goes beyond the gastrointestinal sphere because this bacterium also plays a key role throughout life in cardiovascular health by helping to reduce bad cholesterol levels (LDL).

The benefits

Lactobacillus reuteri is a lactic acid bacterium that produces reuterin, a molecule that is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, which can be pathogenic.

The particularities of THERASCIENCE

THERASCIENCE Laboratory's PHYSIOMANCE® HP product uses a patented inactivated Pylopass™ strain of Lactobacillus reuteri bacteria. This helps reduce the risk of colonization of the stomach by the pathogenic bacterium Helicobacter pylori. To learn more, click on Pylopass™.
