Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
Description
Discovered in the 1970s by American researchers, this molecule was first used in veterinary medicine to combat inflammatory disorders (muscular or articular) in racehorses and pedigree dogs. It was not until the 2000s that this sulphur compound, extracted from wood pulp by-products, was used in humans.
MSM is present in very small quantities in many foods (fruits, seeds, vegetables, algae, etc.).
The benefits
- The interest of MSM lies mainly in the role played by sulphur compounds in the body. In fact, thanks to the sulphur it contains, MSM helps to maintain connective tissue (tendons, deep dermis, cartilage) in good condition. It is also said to help preserve immune functions and, in addition, to play a catalytic role in energy metabolism.
