Alpha-galactosidase

schéma Alpha-galactosidase

Description

Alpha-galactosidase is an enzyme that targets nutrients composed of galactose. This enzyme is able to break down fibres: galactomannans, polysaccharides: galactosides, and glycolipids.

As the amount of enzyme decreases with age, these different nutrients are degraded by intestinal bacteria, which leads to a greater production of intestinal gas, responsible for pain and bloating.

Alpha-galactosidase is known to be deficient in Fabry disease, a genetic disorder with an estimated incidence of 1 in 80,000 births per year.

The benefits

Alpha-galactosidase helps the absorption of carbohydrates contained in food, thus limiting gas production and digestive discomfort.
