GLA (GAMMA-LINOLENIC ACID)

Description

Gamma-linolenic acid, also known as GLA, is a polyunsaturated fatty acid from the omega-6 family. It is present in borage oil and evening primrose oil.

Omega-6 helps to lower bad cholesterol (LDL). They also play a role in the structure and fluidity of cell membranes.

This fatty acid is synthesized from linoleic acid, another omega-6. GLA is then metabolised into dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), resulting in the formation of type 1 prostaglandins (PGE1), which are anti-inflammatory molecules.

Benefits

  • Gamma-linolenic acid is an omega-6. Present in the cell membranes, GLA helps to nourish and hydrate normal to dry skin.
  • Gamma-linolenic acid provides polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that help maintain optimum comfort during menstruation.
