Benefits

Food supplement with sweetener from natural origin

The endocrine system is a complex network of organs and glands (thyroid, adrenal glands, ovaries, pituitary gland, etc.) that regulates essential biological functions through the secretion of hormones. These hormones act as chemical messengers to maintain the balance of many physiological functions: metabolism, reproduction, growth, development, and stress response. This system functions in a finely tuned and coordinated manner, with each hormone playing a specific role at extremely low concentrations.

Certain substances outside the body, known as endocrine disruptors, are known for their ability to interfere with this hormonal system. Whether synthetic or natural, these substances are widely present in our everyday environment: plastics (phthalates, bisphenol A), cosmetics (parabens), pesticides, industrial solvents, and combustion products.

Today, there are more than 120,000 potentially concerning endocrine disruptors in Europe. Some of these compounds, known as persistent compounds, can accumulate in biological tissues via the food chain.

When faced with this exposure, in order to maintain internal balance, our body activates a set of elimination mechanisms called detoxification. This process, mainly orchestrated by the liver, transforms molecules that are often fat-soluble (difficult to eliminate) into water-soluble forms, which are more easily eliminated through urine via the kidneys or through the intestines via bile.

Detoxification takes place in three successive and complementary stages. First, during phase I, known as activation, specialised enzymes, particularly those of the cytochrome P450 family, modify the chemical structure of toxins in preparation for phase II. Next, phase II, known as conjugation, involves combining these molecules with natural compounds, such as glutathione or certain amino acids (such as L-cysteine or methionine), to make them water-soluble. Finally, phase III corresponds to elimination. The substances thus transformed are taken up by transport systems and directed to excretion pathways, such as the intestine, urine or sweat, to be permanently removed from the body.

DETOXSSENTIEL® Perturbateurs Endocriniens has been specifically formulated to provide micronutrients and plant extracts such as milk thistle, which contributes to the liver's detoxification potential and protection, and hawkweed, which facilitates the body's elimination functions and stimulates drainage.

What does science say?

The bioactive ingredients in DETOXSSENTIEL® Perturbateurs Endocriniens have been thoroughly evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA):

  • - Betaine HCl contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism;
  • - Molybdenum contributes to normal metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids;
  • - Milk thistle contributes to the liver's detoxification potential and protection and is recognised as an antioxidant;
  • - Pilosella facilitates the body's elimination and purifying functions by stimulating the elimination of water and toxins.

Broccoli extract, reduced glutathione, taurine, L-cysteine, L-methionine and glycine have been the subject of extensive scientific research, and their biological mechanism of action is widely documented in the literature. However, to date, European legislation has not validated any health claims. Although no specific benefits are officially recognised, these active ingredients are attracting growing interest and offer promising prospects that are worth exploring.

Betaine HCL, for optimal efficiency

Betaine HCl: role, benefits and effect on homocysteine metabolism

Betaine is a compound that occurs naturally in certain foods, including beetroot, spinach and whole grains.
CThis bioactive compound plays a key role as a methyl group donor. These small chemical structures (–CH₃) are transferred from one molecule to another in order to modify, activate or inactivate certain biological functions. In this context, betaine donates a methyl group to homocysteine to convert it into methionine, thus contributing to normal homocysteine metabolism. Homocysteine is a sulphur-containing amino acid produced by the body during the breakdown of methionine. Maintaining it at a balanced level is essential, as excess levels can be associated with increased oxidative stress. By promoting its recycling, betaine thus contributes to maintaining this metabolic balance.

Broccoli extract (Brassica oleracea), standardised in sulforaphane

Broccoli is a vegetable from the cruciferous family, traditionally consumed for its nutritional properties. It contains a specific sulphur compound: glucoraphanin, which is converted into sulforaphane, a compound widely studied for its role in detoxification systems. The broccoli extract used in DETOXSSENTIEL®Perturbateurs Endocriniens is standardised in sulforaphane, a molecule naturally present in young broccoli, particularly sprouted seeds. This substance is traditionally recognised for its benefits as part of a varied and balanced diet.

Milk thistle extract

Milk thistle extract (Silybum marianum)

Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is a plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, recognisable by its large, spiny leaves with white marbling and purple flower heads. Native to the Mediterranean basin, it grows wild in dry, sunny soils. This plant has been used since ancient times, particularly by the Greeks and Romans, for its beneficial effects on the liver.
Milk thistle is traditionally used to support liver function, promote detoxification, protect the liver and for its antioxidant properties. Today, its use is recognised by many European pharmacopoeias.

Hawkweed extract (Hieracium pilosella)

Hawkweed is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, traditionally used in Europe for its draining and purifying properties. It is known for its high flavonoid and bitter principle content. In traditional herbal medicine, hawkweed is used to promote the body's elimination functions, particularly at the renal level. It helps stimulate the natural elimination of water and toxins without disrupting mineral balance. The extract used is obtained by gentle extraction of the aerial parts.

5 Amino acids and derivatives: reduced L-glutathione, L-cysteine, glycine, L-methionine, taurine

DETOXSSENTIEL® Perturbateurs Endocriniens contains a targeted combination of 5 amino acids and derivatives, some of which are involved in the metabolism of sulphur compounds:

  • Reduced L-glutathione is a small tripeptide molecule naturally synthesised in the liver, composed of glycine, cysteine and glutamic acid. Its role is widely recognised in biochemistry as a cofactor in cellular enzymatic processes.
  • L-cysteine, a sulphur-containing amino acid, is present in many animal and plant protein sources. It is a direct precursor of glutathione and participates in various physiological mechanisms related to the metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids.
  • Glycine, which is naturally abundant in connective tissues, is a component of many proteins, including collagen. It is also involved in the formation of peptides and coenzymes.
  • L-methionine is an essential amino acid, obtained exclusively from food or supplements. It participates in protein synthesis and is involved in the biochemical cycles of methyl and sulphur, in connection with homocysteine metabolism.
  • Taurine is a naturally occurring compound synthesised by the body from cysteine. It is abundant in muscle tissue, the brain and other organs. Although it is not classified as an amino acid in the strict sense, it is involved in various physiological metabolic processes.

All of these compounds are included in the formulation to support the body's physiological functions, particularly in situations where the metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids is required, such as during specific nutritional needs involving hepatic metabolic pathways.

Molybdenum trace element: Essential role in the metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids

Molybdenum is an essential trace element naturally present in small quantities in food, particularly in legumes, whole grains and certain leafy vegetables. Although requirements are low, it plays an important role in several enzymatic reactions that are fundamental to the proper functioning of the body. Molybdenum contributes to the normal metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids, in particular through its role as a cofactor for enzymes involved in the conversion of sulphur compounds into more easily eliminable forms. This function is part of the physiological pathways of biotransformation, particularly in the liver, where sulphur-containing amino acids such as cysteine and methionine are mobilised. The molybdenum content in DETOXSSENTIEL® Perturbateurs Endocriniens thus supports these essential metabolic reactions, in line with the presence of sulphur amino acids in the formula.
