Chondroitin sulphate
Description
An essential component of cartilage and produced by the body, chondroitin is also present in the bones, skin, cornea and artery membrane.
Like glucosamine, it may help slow down or even stop the degeneration of joint tissue.
The benefits
- Chondroitin is believed to promote the reconstruction of cartilage and to inhibit, at least partially, the enzyme that destroys it, hyaluronidase.
- It is thought to act in a similar way to glucosamine in the formation of cartilage and synovial fluid. Recent data indicate that it inhibits osteoclasts, the cells whose activity is responsible for the loss of bone tissue.
