NAC (N-acetylcysteine)
Description
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a synthetic derivative of cysteine, a sulphur-containing amino acid, which is involved in the elimination of foreign molecules from the body, including drugs.
NAC allows the synthesis of glutathione, an antioxidant molecule involved in the elimination of free radicals and reactive oxygen species. These molecules are responsible for the oxidative stress that leads to cellular ageing.
N-acetylcysteine also plays a role in the elimination of toxic compounds resulting from drug metabolism.
NAC contributes to the detoxification of cells by helping to maintain normal glutathione levels.
