Description

Mitochondria, often described as the cells’ “powerhouses”, are essential organelles found in almost all cells of the human body. Their main function is to produce the energy required for cell survival and proper cellular function, in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), through a process known as oxidative phosphorylation. This complex process involves the mitochondrial respiratory chain, a series of highly organised biochemical reactions that use oxygen and nutrients to generate energy.

In addition to their role in energy metabolism, mitochondria are involved in other key functions, such as the regulation of apoptosis (programmed cell death, which is necessary for cell renewal and proper cellular function). With age, stress, chronic disease or an unhealthy lifestyle, mitochondrial number and performance may decline, leading to reduced vitality, memory problems, chronic fatigue or unexplained muscle pain.

Mitochondria play an essential role in the proper functioning of the body, particularly in tissues with high energy requirements, such as the brain, muscles and heart. Actively supporting them can therefore be a powerful way to promote optimal vitality, strengthen cognitive functions and support healthy metabolic performance. Proactively promoting mitochondrial activity is therefore a key strategy for sustainably maintaining energy, mental clarity and cellular performance.

PHYSIOMANCE® Mitochondrie Gold is particularly recommended in cases of fatigue, low energy, concentration difficulties or perceived declines in physical or mental performance. It is also suitable for older adults, overworked professionals and athletes seeking optimal recovery, as well as anyone attentive to their energy and well-being.

What does the science say?

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recognises that:

- Vitamins B1, B3, B6, B8, B9 and B12 contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, the normal functioning of the nervous system and normal psychological functions.

- Vitamins B2 and C contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, the protection of cells from oxidative stress and the normal functioning of the nervous system

- Vitamin B5 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and mental performance, and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

 - Zinc contributes to normal acid–base metabolism, the normal metabolism of carbohydrates, macronutrients and fatty acids, normal cognitive function and the protection of cells from oxidative stress

 - Selenium contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to the normal functioning of the immune system

- Natural vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function and to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus.

- Natural vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

- Ginkgo biloba helps maintain healthy cognitive function (memory and concentration), helps maintain memory with age and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

To date, no health claims have been authorised by the European authorities for coenzyme Q10, pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ), trans-resveratrol, acetyl-L-carnitine, alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) or N-acetylcysteine (NAC). However, numerous scientific studies highlight their potential value.

Benefits of Magnesium Glycerophosphate Supplementation

Single-ingredient magnesium

An innovative, synergistic combination

Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone)

Discovered in 1957 by American biochemist Frederick L. Crane, coenzyme Q10 (or ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble molecule naturally produced by the body and also supplied through the diet. It plays a central role in cellular energy metabolism by acting directly within the mitochondrial respiratory chain, a process essential for ATP production.

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA)

Discovered in the 1930s, this organic acid plays an essential role in proper cellular function. As a key enzymatic cofactor in the Krebs cycle, it actively contributes to converting nutrients into energy that cells can use, a fundamental process in ATP production.

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a sulphur-containing compound naturally present in the body and known for its biochemical properties. It is notably studied for its role in the recycling mechanisms of certain antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E and glutathione.

Pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium salt – PQQ

Less familiar to the general public, PQQ was identified as a bacterial growth factor in the 1970s.

It occurs naturally in certain foods, such as fermented products, green tea and cocoa. PQQ is now the subject of extensive scientific research into its biochemical properties and its potential role in various cellular processes.

Acetyl-L-carnitine

Derived from L-carnitine, this acetylated form is more lipophilic, which facilitates its passage across the blood–brain barrier. This characteristic explains why it is studied particularly in research on brain function and energy metabolism. Originally derived from red meat, acetyl-L-carnitine is now available in purified form.

Biochemically, it is involved in transporting long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they can be used in ATP production processes. This mechanism is studied particularly in tissues with high metabolic activity, such as the muscles, brain and heart.

Trans-resveratrol

A natural polyphenol found in grapes, peanuts, blackberries and blueberries, resveratrol has long been known for its presence in certain dietary and herbal medicine traditions, particularly in Asia and the Mediterranean region.

It was initially studied in research on red wine, where its polyphenol content attracted researchers’ attention. Today, it continues to generate considerable scientific interest because of its biochemical properties and potential role in various physiological mechanisms. Resveratrol is therefore the subject of numerous studies exploring its use in nutritional and health research contexts.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC)

N-acetylcysteine is a stable form of cysteine, a sulphur-containing amino acid naturally present in the body. It has been used in hospital settings and functional nutrition since the 1960s. Originating from pharmaceutical research, NAC is now recognised in micronutrition for its role as a precursor in the synthesis of glutathione, a powerful endogenous antioxidant.

Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo biloba is one of the world’s most ancient plants and has been used for thousands of years in traditional Asian pharmacopoeias. Extracts from its leaves contain an exceptionally rich concentration of flavonoids and ginkgolides, natural substances whose properties have been extensively studied.

Laboratoire THERASCIENCE has selected a high-quality, standardised Ginkgo biloba extract, provided at 90 mg per capsule, equivalent to 4.5 g of dried plant material. Each dose therefore supplies 21.6 mg of ginkgoflavonoids, ensuring a precise and consistent concentration of active compounds.

Ginkgo biloba helps maintain healthy cognitive function (memory and concentration), helps maintain memory with age and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

Its inclusion in the PHYSIOMANCE Mitochondrie Gold formula is consistent with an approach designed to support cognitive functions and overall vitality.

Suvimine 13® micronutrient complex

Laboratoire THERASCIENCE has developed the proprietary Suvimine 13® complex. This complex combines 11 vitamins, including B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, B9 and B12), C, D and E, together with 2 trace elements (zinc and selenium) in their most bioavailable forms for optimal efficacy and absorption:

  • Vitamins B2, B6, B9 and B12 are supplied in coenzyme forms;
  • Zinc is supplied in bisglycinate form;
  • Selenium is supplied in selenomethionine form.

Optimal bioavailability

Bioavailability refers to the rate and extent at which an active ingredient is absorbed into the bloodstream. Depending on its form, an active ingredient will therefore be more readily absorbed and utilised by the body. In other words, a highly dosed active ingredient in a poorly bioavailable form will be less effective than a more bioavailable ingredient at a lower dose. It is therefore essential to select the most bioavailable forms of active ingredients to maximise their efficacy. Laboratoire THERASCIENCE pays particularly close attention to selecting the form of each active ingredient.

The combination of acetyl-L-carnitine and trans-resveratrol was carefully selected for its high bioavailability: acetyl-L-carnitine is a highly bioavailable form of carnitine, while resveratrol in its trans form offers optimal absorption. Together, these two active ingredients work in a complementary manner to promote optimal assimilation.

Vitamins B2, B6, B9 and B12 are supplied in coenzyme forms. B-group vitamins are a family of water-soluble nutrients that act synergistically and contribute to numerous essential metabolic reactions. Since they do not accumulate in the body, they are not stored and do not pose a risk of overdose. In our products, they are supplied in forms identical to those naturally used by the body, making them more biologically active: vitamin B2 as riboflavin sodium 5′-phosphate, vitamin B6 as pyridoxal 5′-phosphate, vitamin B9 as calcium L-methylfolate and vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin.

Zinc is supplied in bisglycinate form. A randomised study conducted in healthy volunteers compared the oral bioavailability of zinc in gluconate and bisglycinate forms. At an equivalent dose (15 mg), after a seven-day washout period between each intake, the results showed significantly higher bioavailability (+43.4%) for bisglycinate compared with gluconate. This form is also particularly well tolerated by the body.

Selenium is supplied in the form of selenomethionine. This form is obtained from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, cultured in the presence of sodium selenite. During fermentation, the yeast metabolises the selenite and converts it into organic selenium bound to a molecule of methionine, an essential amino acid. This process produces selenomethionine, recognised as the most bioavailable form of selenium.

Enhanced natural profile

Committed to a natural approach, PHYSIOMANCE® Mitochondrie Gold is based on carefully selected ingredients.

The coenzyme Q10, PQQ and trans-resveratrol in this formula are all obtained through natural fermentation, a gentle, environmentally responsible method that guarantees ingredients free from impurities and with a high degree of purity (99% for PQQ and 98% for trans-resveratrol).

Vitamins D3 and E are also natural: D3 is derived from lichen, making it fully compatible with vegetarian and vegan diets, while natural vitamin E is selected for its ability to protect cells from oxidation.

Not tested on animals and manufactured in Europe, the formula meets the strictest dietary requirements: no gluten- or lactose-based ingredients.
