The effectiveness of low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets, originally used to treat epilepsy and, since the 1960s, to promote weight loss, is widely recognised. However, the tolerated carbohydrate intake threshold compatible with ketosis varies between individuals, which can slow down the induction of ketosis and delay the effectiveness of the diet.
