Optimal bioavailability
The Peptan® collagen peptides present in DERMASSENTIEL® Royal Collagen are distinguished by their low molecular weight (2000 Da). Native collagen, in its unprocessed state, is a very large protein, far too bulky to cross the intestinal wall and be absorbed by the body as such. This is why Peptan® undergoes an enzymatic hydrolysis process, a technique that breaks down this large molecule into much smaller units: short peptides, notably di- and tripeptides, as well as free amino acids.
The smaller these fragments are, the more easily they are able to cross the intestinal barrier to quickly enter the bloodstream. The 2000 Da format of Peptan® strikes exactly this balance: a size low enough to ensure optimal passage, without excessively breaking down the peptides to the point of losing their biological interest.
This optimal bioavailability is a key issue for the effectiveness of a collagen-based food supplement: once absorbed, these peptides circulate to the dermis, where they can be taken up by fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen synthesis.
