Glutathione
Description
Glutathione is a molecule naturally present in cells. It is composed of three amino acids: glutamate, cysteine and glycine.
Glutathione is essential for many biochemical and metabolic reactions. This peptide is involved in the synthesis and repair of DNA as well as in the transport of amino acids in the body.
This molecule is a powerful antioxidant which participates in the maintenance of the redox potential (reduced-oxidized state balance of organic compounds). The presence of a sulfur atom in its structure explains its properties.
Glutathione captures free radicals and inhibits the oxidation of lipids, thus preventing oxidative stress responsible for cell aging. This antioxidant plays an essential role in the detoxification of the body by actively participating in the neutralization and elimination of toxic substances foreign to the body via the urine.
