Shark liver
Description
Particularly used for its richness in squalene and alkylglycerols (AKG), shark liver has been known since the Middle Ages by Scandinavian and Japanese fishermen who used to call it a "panacea".
AKGs are lipids that stimulate haematopoiesis, the function by which the body produces and renews the figurative elements of the blood (red and white blood cells and platelets).
Haematopoiesis corresponds to the differentiation of haematopoietic stem cells that can generate myeloid lineage cells (red cells, granulocytes and macrophages), but also lymphoid lineage cells (including B cells, responsible for the production of antibodies, and T cells).
According to an in vivo study published in 2012, alkylglycerols also have immunostimulant activity.
