Gemmotherapy is a branch of phytotherapy, developed in the 1960s, which uses plant buds and young shoots. Developed by Dr. Pol Henry, a Belgian physician and phytotherapist, gemmotherapy is based on the totipotency of embryonic plant cells, that is to say their ability to differentiate and give rise to all parts of the plant (branches, leaves, flowers, fruits…), as well as all of its tissues and functional organs.

For this reason, buds have a particularly high concentration of primary and secondary metabolites. Primary metabolites are essential for plant development: nucleic acids, amino acids, sugars, minerals, as well as phytohormones (auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins, abscisic acid), responsible for the initiation and regulation of the growth of plants and trees. Secondary metabolites (polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, iridoids, etc.) are involved in the plant’s defense, adaptation, and protection mechanisms. It is this richness in metabolites that gives gemmotherapy its particular interest.

The concentrated macerates GemmoPure^® from the THERASCIENCE Laboratory are produced according to the traditional method of Dr. Pol Henry, by macerating the buds in a mixture of three complementary solvents, in equal parts: 1/3 water, 1/3 ORGANIC alcohol and 1/3 ORGANIC glycerin, for a minimum duration of 21 days, followed by a filtration step. This combination of solvents allows for an optimal and complete extraction of the active molecules from the buds.

Horse chestnut is a venotonic plant that helps to maintain good venous circulation, particularly in the legs. It is also used for proper blood circulation in the micro-vessels.

Rowan has been the subject of scientific research, and its biological mechanism of action is documented in the health literature.

However, to date, European legislation has not approved any health claim for rowan.

The horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) is a tree native to the Balkans, now widely distributed across Europe. Introduced to Western Europe from the 16th century, it is recognisable by its majestic form and its large palmate leaves, and holds an important place in parks, urban alignments and phytotherapeutic traditions.
The chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) is an emblematic tree of temperate regions of Europe, present for centuries in forest and rural landscapes. It naturally grows in hilly and mountainous areas, on well-drained soils, and plays a major role in the agricultural, food and cultural history of many regions.
