Did you know it ?
More than one woman in two will develop cystitis during her life. In 90% of cases, cystitis is caused by Escherichia coli, a bacterium that adheres to the bladder wall (urothelium) via adhesion proteins (pili/fimbriae). This infection is then responsible for burning during urination, pain in the lower abdomen, the feeling of not being able to hold it in and the need to urinate often without evacuating a large quantity of urine. Many cases of cystitis never go away and is recurrent. Prevention is therefore essential. The combination of vitamin C, propolis, cranberry proanthocyanidols and D-mannose forms a shock complex against cystitis. Vitamin C and propolis are preferred as an attack treatment. Cranberry and D-mannose are specifically involved in prevention. Proanthocyanidols contribute to the reduction of pili synthesis by E.coli. D-mannose is a carbohydrate that cannot be metabolised by the body; it has receptors that attract bacteria and prevents them from attaching themselves to the bladder walls, allowing them to be eliminated via the urine. As you can see, with cystitis, prevention is better than cure...
