    Today, nutritional studies show that in Europe nearly 70 to 75% of the population does not reach the recommended intakes of omega 3, particularly EPA and DHA. This insufficiency contributes to an imbalance in the omega 6 / omega 3 ratio in the diet.

    In many European countries, this omega 6 / omega 3 ratio can reach 10:1 to 20:1, whereas a more favorable nutritional balance is generally estimated around 5:1 to 6:1. Such an imbalance may influence certain physiological functions, notably those related to the heart, brain and vision.

    The omega 3 are so-called essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, because the human body cannot synthesize them. They must therefore be provided by the diet or by appropriate supplementation. Among them, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), mainly present in fatty fish, as well as ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), of plant origin, play a key role. EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of a normal cardiac function and to the maintenance of a normal concentration of triglycerides in the blood. DHA also contributes to normal brain function and normal vision. ALA contributes, for its part, to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.
